Explode Into Colors – Into The Woods, Live!

Into The Woods Ep #2 – Explode Into Colors from Into The Woods on Vimeo.

Portland’s Explode Into Colors has been a band I’ve wanted to write about for a while now. I fell in love with their track “Sharpen The Knife” which is rich with the raw charm that a lot of their music has. It’s a messy splatter of sludgy punk dub, hypnotically wrought with reverbed to oblivion vocals and percussive backbeat. The video above is from the Into The Woods series, which is akin to a rural Pacific Northwest spin on La Blogotheque’s Takeaway shows. For this one, Explode Into Colors head off to Rhododendron, Oregon for an intimate show at a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Check it out.

Also, grab the mp3 of “Sharpen The Knife” below. The song was originally released on a now out of print 7″ via M’Lady Records. If I understand their website correctly will be included on the forthcoming Quilts EP, a 12″ that’s collecting Explode Into Colors first three hard to find singles.

Mochipet – Complex Players Dub (Free The Robots Remix)

Off the new release Master P on Atari Transformed Volume 2 on Daly City Records, here’s one of the remixes by expert beatsmith Free The Robots. I’m pretty new to Mochipet, but I do highly recommend anything FTR puts out. He just dropped his debut Ctrl Alt Delete over at Alphapup records and you can get a free download of the killer track “Orion’s Belt Buckle” over at the label’s website. The song features wave after wave of lovely analog sandwiched between deliciously layered beats. I came to write more about Mochipet, but here I am rambling on about Free The Robots.

Go all out and grab some of Mochipet’s free mashups too, particularly his demolishing of N.E.R.D’s “Everybody Nose” and Lil Wayne’s “A Millie”. The latter a song I adore remixes of but don’t really like the original at all. Hm.

Either way, grab all three and you’ll have yourself a good day.

New Podcast – SRS BSNS With DeMatteis & 2hands

Hello again. So, in some of the spare time that I’ve not been updating Taking Tiger Mountain I decided to start up a pop culture seeped podcast with my buddy Andrew ’2hands’ Tunney called SRS BSNS!. We both met at Comicon in 2007 and have been talking shit about media since…so making you suckers on the internet listen to it seemed like the next logical conclusion. Episode 1.1 is up and 1.2 will be arriving later this week. I guess I should give fair warning that it’s got a bit of profanity going on…almost 100% my fault, Andrew was the consummate English gentleman save some discussion about Watchmen’s blue cock density.

We aim to keep this thing regular, as there’s always things to complain about in movies, music and video games. Give a listen and share it should you enjoy.

Thanks!
